The effectiveness of a material treatment processes is measured in terms of the benefits exhibited by the post-treatment material, relative to any changes which might have taken place in that material during the treatment.  Stratek has been successful in developing both processes and the equipment to perform those procesess, and key to that success has been Stratek's ability to measure and analyze the composition, processing nature, and performance of both untreated and post-treated materials.

As a materials research company, Stratek has two essential operations in-house:  The first is a labscale and shortrun materials processing operation consisting of several single and twin-screw extruders feeding Tek-MixTM treatment machines.  The resulting extrudate is commonly pelletized, however it can also be processed into coils of standard strands or custom profile extrusions.

The second in-house operation is a fully functional and well-equipped Polymer
Laboratory for measuring viscosity, molecular weight (GPC), moisture content, crystallinity, dynamic rheometry,  particle content (TEM), particle size and distribution analysis (microscopy), and most other commonly required material characterization tests.

In addition, the Stratek Laboratory is equipped for generating and testing compression molded films as well as injection molded test bars.  In addition to testing for optical and dielectric properties, Stratek routinely performs physical property tests meeting ANSI standards for tensile, elongation, and impact strength.

Analysis and Test Reports

Stratek regularly uses its processing and laboratory capabilities to develop Tek-MixTM treatment "methods and procedures" for processing customers' materials.  In these cases, customers generally provide Stratek with all the materials, additives, and other ingredents to be included in the test, as well as a complete understanding of current processing methods, inspection techniques, and desired resulting measurable characteristics.

Customarily, Stratek then provides the customer with samples and a written test report including an analysis of the processing and testingresults.

At our Wallingford, Connecticut USA facility, Stratek has a well-equipped material testing laboratory complete with instruments for testing and analyzing material composition and rheological behavior, as well physical properties. The laboratory supports Stratek’s material development activities as well as performing tests for outside clients and customers.

Please contact us to discuss the material characterization and physical property testing services we offer.

"The Materials Analyst, Part 98:  A Tour of the World of Nylon-Part 1"
An Article by Michael Sepe, published in Injection Molding Magazine - July 2008

Stratek has done considerable experimentation and material processing involving Polyamides (Nylon).  Therefore this article caught our eye when we found it in the July Issue of Injection Molding Magazine.   We think it addresses both the basics and some more advanced information concerning the differences in the chemistry and structure of these two important materials.
